Explosion Books and Ornaments (plus an origami box!)

Bookbinding Basics

Class #4

December Fun (Explosion Books and Ornaments)

Wednesday, December 13, 2017 6:00-9:00pm

Studio 164, Essex Studios, 2511 Essex Pl, Cincinnati, OH 45206

Join us and learn how to make a simple book that packs a lot of visual punch! Explosion books make great gifts or greeting cards, and we’ll show you an ornament variation too. You’ll have time to make several, and we’ll even teach you how to fold a quick origami box to put them all in! We’ve made this workshop a little cheaper too, as it will be a bit more casual and less structured than other workshops in the series.

Instructors: Jessica Ebert and Veronica Sorcher

Jessica Ebert has been making books since 2008 and loves making marbled paper, perhaps a little too much.  She is currently infatuated with modified long-stitch bindings, which she makes and sells on Etsy (www.etsy.com/shop/ebertje) and at Essex Art Walks

Veronica Sorcher, a lifelong book and paper addict, has been making handmade books since 2004, and teaching binding techniques to Cincinnati Book Arts Society members and beyond since 2013.

Wishin’ and Hopin’

We’re looking forward to the CBAS Holiday Potluck this Saturday, December 9 at noon.  If you’ve already RSVP’ed, thank you. If you’re planning to come but haven’t RSVP’ed yet, please let us know so we can plan for supplies. Thanks in advance for bringing something yummy to share.
Several people have asked if CBAS needs anything for our studio, and the answer of course is Yes! If you’d like to bring a holiday gift for the studio, it would be greatly appreciated.  Here is our wish list, in no particular order:
  • Monetary donations are always welcome
  • Forever stamps
  • A bottle of wine (for open houses, art walks, annual meeting, Bind & Unwind)
  • Bottled water (individual size)
  • Coke or Diet Coke (small or medium sized bottles; 2-litre bottles don’t fit in the fridge)
  • Clear plastic cups (6- or 8-oz, for wine)

  • Toilet tissue
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic tablecloths (rectangular, 54″ x 108″, any color, available at the Dollar Store, grocery store or anywhere you can buy party supplies)
