Studio 164, Essex Studios, 2511 Essex Pl, Cincinnati, OH 45206
Originally created by book artist Hedi Kyle, the flag books adds layers, movement, and a sculptural element to the basic accordion book. You can use the form for everything from greeting cards to visually complex pieces. This gallery from the Book Arts Web shows some great examples of artists exploring this basic structure. In this workshop we will make a bare-bones model of a flag book to understand how it works, and then a more decorative version to explore its visual potential.
Instructors: Veronica Sorcher, assisted by Jessica Ebert
Veronica Sorcher, a lifelong book and paper addict, has been making handmade books since 2004, and teaching binding techniques to Cincinnati Book Arts Society members and beyond since 2013.
Jessica Ebert has been making books since 2008 and loves making marbled paper, perhaps a little too much. She is currently infatuated with modified long-stitch bindings, which she makes and sells on Etsy (www.etsy.com/shop/ebertje) and at Essex Art Walks.
