Cincinnati Book Arts Society (CBAS) does outreach to our community. We have assisted at museum and school workshops, held bookmaking groups for libraries and participated in Books by the Banks.

Ongoing Outreach: Cadet Girl Scouts

CBAS offers a two-hour Book Artist Badge workshop for Cadette Scouts (grades 6-8). The workshop plan compresses the Girl Scouts’ requirements into the two-hour time frame that most troops allow for their meetings. Each Girl Scout makes three book models: a single sheet structure, an accordion with a wrapped-board cover, and a pamphlet stitched blank book. Other topics addressed may include: parts of a book, history of book making, careers related to books and book production. Our basic charge is $60. This covers all materials and supplies for twelve Girl Scouts and two leaders. We ask an additional $5 for each participant over the minimum. Given the minimum of twelve Girl Scouts, we encourage smaller troops to combine, and this has occurred on several occasions.
