Paste papers became popular during the 16th century as a way to create inexpensive end papers and use up paste at the end of the day. This site takes you to a short article about paste paper. https://pastispresent.org/2017/fun-in-the-archive/pasted-pandemonium/ The key ingredients are: paste, paper, colors (acrylic) and mark making tools. We’ll start the session with a brief (approx. 45 minutes) history and description of paste papers, discuss various pastes and coloring agents, do a quick demo and then start creating beautiful paste papers. When you sign up for the session you’ll receive in advance a longer description of the process, including suggested papers, tools and recipes so that those who participate by Zoom will have all supplies ready on the day of the session and those attending in person will have an idea of what to bring.
Supplies needed: Wear old clothes, bring an apron and disposable gloves.
Paper: We’ll provide several different types but you’ll want to make lots so bring extra papers.
Paste: This will be provided – one cooked paste and one made from methyl cellulose
Tools: Mark making like scrapers, combs, stamps, stencils, etc. – we have lots in the studio.
Colors: Acrylic paint in any form to color the paste. Use up old paints. The studio has a limited supply.
Newspapers: Bring any old newspapers to use as drying sheets.
Please RSVP by August 3rd to [email protected] to reserve a space or be put on the Zoom list. We have limited spots but will start a wait-list if needed. You will receive a confirming email. If you would like to pay the $20.00 fee by PayPal please use the “August” button on the Study Group page of the CBAS website cincinnatibookarts.org/events-workshops/study-group/ Otherwise, please bring cash or check to the meeting.
