Many thanks to CBAS co-chair Peg Rhein for thrifting, donating and helping install new curtains for the CBAS studio, and attaching the strip of decorative paper to block glare while letting in more light. Thanks also to Stuart Golder and our other co-chair Amy Gable for helping take down the dusty old curtains (already disintegrating when we first rented the studio nine years ago) and hanging the new ones. Add to that thank-you list longtime CBAS member Paula Kirk. Several years ago Paula donated an entire box of beautiful Thai paper with natural inclusions. It’s come in handy for a number of bookmaking projects and makes the perfect finishing touch to the long-awaited redecorating project.
Access to the studio (#164 at the Essex Studios in Walnut Hills) is an important benefit of Cincinnati Book Arts Society membership. As long as it isn’t being used for a CBAS event and is approved by the Board, the space is available for use by current CBAS members free of charge. Whether working on an individual or collaborative project (perhaps laying out a large quilt?), attending a meeting or perhaps teaching a class of your own (even if your event isn’t specifically book related), keep the studio in mind as a spacious and well-lit workspace.
Advance booking is required. You must bring your own materials and leave the studio in the same condition you found it and securely locked. Contact the CBAS Studio Manager at [email protected] if you’re interested or want more information.
Check out the new curtains next time you’re in the studio!
